Converted Thames Bawley Yacht in Cumbria

Matched to a New Owner

This Boat is no longer lonely

This boat has now been saved and matched with a new owner. Thank you to all of those who showed an interest in restoring her.

We have been asked to share this Converted Thames Bawley Yacht in West Cumbria. She is available for FREE and the owner will even cover the cost of lifting onto transport. He has provided us with this detailed write up about the boat and her condition. It’s not a project to be taken lightly but if you can get the boat back to her former glory she’s looks great. Plus there seems to be plenty of good bits on board. If you’re interested in taking the boat on just fill in the form below and we will put you in touch with the owner.

Her owner explained, “I have a lonely boat that just needs to go. A project absolutely but I think a worthwhile one. Arctic Rose is a 1940’s converted Thames Bawley. She started life with a pot which boiled prawns (boiley/bawley). At some point she was converted into a sailing yacht. I obtained her last year with a view to restoring her to her former glory and glorious she was. As she stands now I started stripping the old paint off but life has got in the way. The hull is mostly sound albeit a few minor bits plus re-caulking required. A new floor laying inside, it’s a rectangle inside so very easy. Mast snapped over winter but i’ve been told it is fixable, no idea. She is fully equipped and goes as is. Self steering vane, many electrics, autopilot, good 5hp honda outboard. Sails are as new albeit UV strips not so good. All free, she just needs go but in her entirety, no stripping of parts in the yard. She is based in Maryport, West Cumbria. A free lift is available onto your chosen transport.  No parts are for sale, it all goes as one. At least £2-3k of decent parts alone.
26ft excluding bowsprit, 1940’s is all I know. Doesn’t have a make or model was just a converted Thames Bawley (an old prawn boat with a boiler).  Weighs under a tonne, apparently. She is/was/ could be again an absolute beauty. I just can’t help her anymore.
