Second Chance’s Bio

MG Spring 25, winged keel draws 2ft 11. I bought this boat about 11 years ago and since then have successfully sailed around in Poole Harbour and sometimes the sea. As I normally sail single handed or with inexperienced sailors I don’t venture out in much above a force 3 to 4.

The boat is largely in the same condition as when I bought it with bubbles in the hull surface that the previous owner said was down to poor application of the epoxy copper coat. I have successfully anti fouled over that since I bought it and it has worked well. The stern gland leaks about 1/3 of a pint of water per hour when the engine is run in gear up against the pontoon. The P bracket that holds the prop shaft is a little out of true and has been for years. When adjusted recently the stern gland didn’t leak at all for 2 years. I had to fix one of the stanchions and others were fixed before I have it. I had new furling gear fitted 2 years ago, the engine had new oil pipes and a new pump 2 years ago. There is a cruising chute, a spinnaker, a snuffler and a spare large head sail. There are 2 approx 100 amp hour batteries and the engine starts well. Most of the pictures date back to 2019.

Anybody wishing to purchase needs first to come and have a look round and preferably have her lifted out at cost to the buyer £100 – £150 . For insurance reasons there is no option to keep the boat at Poole Yacht Club. The market place has these boats listed for between £7000 and £14000. I am not looking for anything like that. My priority is to pass her on to somebody who will be able to make good use of her the price is of secondary consideration, so I won’t feel insulted by a low offer.
