Matched to a New Owner
This Boat is no longer lonely
This boat has now sold, thank you to everyone who showed interest in her.
We have been asked to share this Lonely Boat which is a Newbridge Virgo Voyager. She is currently in Cardiff Yacht club and is FREE to a good home. From the pictures and details provided (below) we can see she’s definitely a project boat. But one that in our opinion has plenty of life left in her. We know that Virgo Voyagers as well built yachts so she’s a great project for someone to take on, especially for free! If you’re interested in taking her on please fill in the contact form below, we will then put you in touch with her owner.
Notes from the Owner:
Boat was obtained from Cardiff Yacht Club in 2016, which I was a member of.
Took her on as a project boat with a friend when we were in our early 20’s. Due to being abandoned, she had no history and there is also no hull number (That I could find anyway), so I have assumed the boat is an early 70s model.
Selling due to family and work commitment’s. Never seem to have the time now approaching 30. Was trying to teach myself new DIY things along the way and on a budget, so there maybe some inadequate jobs!
Jobs I have undertaken, some with help:
- Boat has had all seacocks replaced
- Engine (Yanmar 1GM10) has had a replacement alternator, fuel lift pump, oil pipes, impeller and belt. Seems to start every time. Re-wired engine electrics. No rev counter or fuel gauge.
- Hand rails replaced and coach roof hatch rebuilt/refurbed.
- Rubbing strakes wood replaced but may need some work as this was amateur job
- Replacement mainsail
- original jib sail. Tired, but seems okay.
- Replaced depth sounder and speed wheel.
- Anti fouled 3-4 years ago.
- Interior stripped due to mouldy headlining and cushions. Was due to replace.
- Hull generally solid with odd bits of wear and tear.
- U-bolts for rigging replaced on the port side.
- Plastic panels for ceiling.
Issues:
- There is a small leak coming from above when it rains, although nothing too dramatic. I believe it is coming from the cockpit somewhere. But I never been successful in sourcing it.
- Cockpit hatch used to be bolted down but was insecure and let rain water in. I had to remove the bolts and fibreglass over the holes temporarily. Haven’t figured out a way to lock/secure it with latches permanently yet, but has stayed down with gravity for now and lot letting rain in…
- Front hatch needs re-sealing. I have the replacement seal, just haven’t got round to fitting it. Only lets a few drops in though during heavy rain.
- Needs a new manual bilge pump mounted, I have a replacement.
- Wiring of the nav lights and mast hasn’t been done.
Moored in Cardiff Bay Yacht Club.
New owner will need to arrange pick up/transportation.
Marine group Cardiff up the river and Penarth Mariner around the corner.
