WHYDAH Nicholson 35 built 1977 No.137

  • 35 ‘ 3” x 26’9” x 10’5” x 5’6”.
  • Displacement 8 tons

White hull with ice blue deck Long fin keel with wheel steering plus emergency tiller Xp

Purchased May 1998

Many changes and improvements made to whydah prior to starting major refit 2012

ENGINE

  • 42HP Westerbeke installed 2000 (used until 2012, Whydah has been ashore from this time)
  • 40 Gallon Fuel Tank Hurth V Drive Gear box (serviced 2000) with rope cutter on shaft together with PSS shaft seal
  • Dedicated 65amp Engine start Battery
  • 4 Domestic 110 amp Deep Cycle Batteries
  • Dedicated Battery for Electric Windlass
  • Adverc management system
  • New 3 Bladed Darglow propeller not fitted

SAILS

  • Fully Battened Main with slab reefing, all lines lead aft to cockpit Cutter Rig added with new yankee sails (2007) and self tacking rig (to be refitted)
  • Both furling sails with lines lead aft Kemp Packaway system for Mainsail

  • All staying rigging replaced during our ten years of sailing

  • Engine bay area redesigned to allow for easy access to Engine when required

Galley

  • New Galley area refitted, polished Teak and Iroko
  • Lourved doorsta cupboards
  • New double drainer and mixer Tap

REFIT commenced 2012

  • Started with New fuse board, wired professionally installed
  • With new polished Teak Instrument Panel made to be installed
  • New Chart Table lid with carving to be polished and fitted
  • Shore Power System with Shore power charging for Batteries
  • Batterires to be refitted eventually including windless Battery
  • New Headlinings with allowance for lighting (lights to be purchased)
  • Saloon Cupboards
  • Have been restyled, Polished and fitted
  • New Polished Teak (existing furniture)
  • Plastic Windows here have been replaced with new Toughened Glass and New Stainless Steel Exterior Frames fitted
  • Interior Teak Frames made , to be fitted,
  • (All Timbers used in Galley/Saloon areas are Albizua , teak or Iroko , all Polished to a high standard)
  • New Lewmar Hatch fitted with new Timber Base and polished interior trim
  • New Timber Lourved Door to Heads to be fitted
  • Heads sink to be reinstalled when either fibreglass or timber reconstruction

FORWARD area

  • Complete new design to in clued double bunk with storage under
  • New side cupboards port & Starboard all to be varnished and painted as required
  • New Lewmar Hatch to be fitted ( supplied) , inner polished trim made, to be fitted
  • Bow Thruster Tunnel has been installed
  • New Bow thruster unit price to be negotiated Access for installation of Unit under double bunk

HULL WORK

  • New Solid Iroko Toe Rail milled and installed
  • Old Teak Hand Handrails removed and new Teak replacements made, to be fitted
  • All Deck areas have been repaired where need wet areas have been removed and recored and reglassed, polished to make good
  • Push pit and pull pits have to be reinstalled
  • All newly chromed stanchion bases have to be installed with guardrails etc
  • New Jib Sheet Tracks supplied, to be fitted
  • All Chrome trims around new Hawser holes ( to be installed)
  • The Topsides have all been stripped back to fibreglass , repaired where needed
  • And complete new Gel Coat applied and polished
  • Below the waterline has been completely repaired, sandblasted, now awaiting filling and fairing
  • Then copper coating or Anti fouling Coach roof sides have bee stripped back to fibreglass and re gelled and polished
  • Stem Head fitting has been completely re chromed needs to be fitted And new runners
  • New Jib Sheet tracks to be fitted (supplied)

NOTE

Although Whydah isn’t complete

So far all of the work carried out so far is of the highest order It would be amazing if someone who appreciates the quality Of the Nicholson 35 and would be willing to finish Whydah For future generations to enjoy
