About This Lonely Boat™
Built in 1944 by Clapson and Sons Shipbuilders of Southampton, initially as a refuelling vessel in WW2, then converted to be a liveaboard. Is not liveable now due to disuse and general poor state – a project for someone interested in taking it on.
The number of owners is unknown but I know of at least four since the turn of the millennium. It did belong to my mother, who purchased in 2007 and lived on it until 2019 – has been lonely ever since. It is steel-hulled and has not been out of the water since the year my mother bought it. I believe the hull was in good shape then but cannot attest to it now, only that the bilges are dry.
It has twin diesel Perkins engines (the original ones from 1944, I believe) but neither work. I took the fuel injectors off last year and tried pouring diesel in to see if they had fully seized and rusted shut, but the fuel went through so potentially some hope there.
She is located on The River Lark, between Isleham and Prickwillow, Cambridgeshire.
The owner is looking to conduct viewings the weekend of 7th/8th November 2025.
